Students who have successfully completed CULN 120 –Fundamentals of Cookery, may enroll in CULN 207 –Culinary Competition I. The Kapi`olani Culinary Arts Program's American Culinary Federation Junior Chapter competition team members are selected from CULN 207 students and previous team members. The 2009 ACF team made history by winning the Western Regional Competion and earning a GOLD medal, going on to win the ACF national title! The 2010 ACF team continued the excellence earning a close second place and a GOLD medal! The 2011 ACF team won third and our program now holds three Gold medals! |
Competition places emphasis on teamwork, and many hours are spent practicing for the competition. |

Thank you Robert Paik for the great job on KITV's morning show. Robert did a demo on the dish for which he and partner Kara Bleday received 1st place for in the contest sponsored by Kahala Nui.
Congratulations to Chef Frank Leake
Chef Leake has been named as the ACF National Educator of the Year Western Region! This award pays tribute to an active culinary educator whose knowledge, skills and expertise have enhanced the image of the professional chef, and who, by example, has given leadership, guidance and direction to students seeking a career in the culinary profession. This person demonstrates the ability to help students define and develop their careers by using their skills and abilities to provide a strong foundation for their future success.

Kapiʻolani Culinary Program Spotlighted at White House Luau

Just a couple of weeks before he coached Kapiʻolani Community College’s Team Hawaiʻi to a national championship at the American Culinary Federation's 2009 Student Team National Competition in Orlando, Fla., Associate Professor Alan Tsuchiyama was cooking for President Barack Obama at the White House.
